At age 14, Steven Schaefer was looking for a part time job after school and landed a dishwasher position in a small Michigan restaurant. He was fascinated by what was going on in the kitchen. By age 19 he was promoted to the head chef of that same restaurant at the Richmond Mill Inn in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
He eventually got a job at the Ritz-Carlton in Chicago, then other hotels around the country, from The Breakers in Palm Beach; Westchester Country Club in New York; the Executive Hotel in San Diego; the Fairmont Hotel in Dallas; the Four Seasons in Washington, DC; the Doubletree in Marina del Ray where he was nominated by the California Restaurant Writers Association as Chef of the Year; then executive sous chef at the Ritz-Carlton Buckhead in 1990.
It was in Buckhead where Chef Schaefer met a young Matthew Medure fresh out of culinary school. The following year Chef Schaefer was hired as the executive chef at the opening of the Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island, bringing Chef Medure to work alongside him in his kitchen.
During his time at The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island, Chef Schaefer was instrumental in organizing such events as the Concourse de Elegance, Festival of New World Cusine as well as hosting many Chaîne des Rôtisseurs dinners.
He went on to open other Ritz-Carlton properties as the Food and Beverage Director in Naples and the General Manager in Jupiter and back to Amelia Island as the Hotel Manager. In between Chef Schaefer spent some time in the Bahamas working at the Atlantis Resort, and opened his own restaurant in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois.
Chef Schaefer wedding 1990
Married for over 31 years with three children and one granddaughter, Chef Schaefer is a professional, but first and foremost, a family man.
Fast forward to 2013 and looking to return to the Jacksonville area, Chef Schaefer reconnects with his protégé, Matthew Medure, and the two become business partners. Matthew and his brother David had just launched the first M Shack in Atlantic Beach and Chef Schaefer comes on board as the Managing Partner.
After nearly a decade together and ready for a new adventure, Chef Schaefer was given the opportunity to start Cowfeathers. Join us in our newest chapter and enjoy the fresh flavors created by an award winning Chef who always cooks with love.

Safe Animal Shelter
Our Mission
Safe Animal Shelter is a nonprofit organization working to reduce the number of cats and dogs euthanized in Clay County, Duval County, Northeast Florida and the surrounding areas.
Our Vision
We envision a community in which all companion animals have loving homes and are treated with compassion and respect.
Who We Are
Safe Animal Shelter became Clay County’s first no-kill shelter in 1991 to provide housing for more homeless pets in the community until they could find a forever home.
We are registered as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation with the state of Florida. EIN# 593054559
All services we provide the community are funded by individual and business donations, grants from charitable foundations, pet adoption fees, and fund-raising activities held throughout each year.
We measure our success by maximizing the number of loving families who adopt pets from us. Since inception, we have provided loving care to over 18,000 cats and dogs until they were adopted into loving homes.
We continue to strive toward the goal of a no-kill community and state through adoption, pet retention, rescue partnerships, and medical services. Each pet we adopt to a forever family opens space to save another homeless cat or dog. We encourage you to consider us when looking for your next family pet.
We encourage and promote spaying and neutering as the only effective approach to reducing the pet overpopulation problem. In compliance with state law and as a matter of principle, we spay and neuter all pets prior to adoption. All rescued animals that enter Safe Animal Shelter are provided food, shelter, loving care, attention, socialization, recreation, exercise and quality medical treatment. That includes spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, and heartworm testing. If heartworm positive, pets are usually put through treatment before adoption. All dogs and cats are micro chipped for their safety and their future owner’s convenience.

NAPA Auto Parts - Green Cove Springs
In 1925, a group of independent auto parts sellers met in Detroit to form the National Automotive Parts Association. Their mission was simple: Improve the distribution of auto parts to serve the people and businesses who increasingly relied on cars and trucks for their transportation needs.
NAPA stores and warehouses, which were owned by a variety of member companies at the time, quickly became the go-to sources for parts. Carlyle Fraser, founder of Genuine Parts Company, served as a key NAPA contributor in its early years.
Across the decades, Genuine Parts began to acquire the other NAPA member companies, and in 2012 became the last remaining member of NAPA, a brand with a reputation for quality parts, rapid availability, and knowledgeable people. Today, the NAPA Network offers 800,000+ unique parts, distributed across 6,000+ NAPA Auto Parts stores and 18,000+ NAPA Auto Care centers throughout the United States.
Today, NAPA Auto Parts stores and Auto Care centers continue to connect professional automotive technicians, at-home mechanics and everyday drivers with quality parts, aftermarket accessories and car care products to keep their vehicles and garage equipment performing safely and efficiently.
